Congratulations to CRM Associate Director Professor Dónal O'Carroll who has been elected to join the Fellowship of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE).

He joins over 1,600 fellows who seek to support the RSE in delivering its mission of ‘knowledge made useful’.

Professor O’Carroll (pictured below) joined the Centre in 2015 as Chair of Stem Cell Biology, he is also a Wellcome Senior Investigator. The O’Carroll laboratory studies the mammalian germline from an RNA perspective. His laboratory couples advanced mouse genetics with state-of-the-art sequencing approaches to explore the PIWI-interacting RNA (piRNA) and RNA modification pathways.

After graduating in biochemistry from Trinity College Dublin, Dónal O’Carroll performed his PhD studies in the laboratory of Thomas Jenuwein at the Research Institute for Molecular Pathology (IMP) in Vienna before joining The Rockefeller University working with Alexander Tarakhovsky. From 2007-2015 he was group leader at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Rome.
