A laser used to fabricate 3D structures in transparent materials such as glasses, crystals and polymers Introduction The nonlinear absorption of femtosecond laser pulses is used to fabricate 3D structures in transparent materials (glasses, crystals and polymers). Our initial project is to generate a niche for the distal lung. Specifications The femtosecond laser enables us to: fabricate structures such as precision freeform micro-optics, that can be utilised in advanced endoscopic instruments we are investigating the use of femtosecond lasers to fabricate structures such as bio-compatable 3D cell scaffolds that can be implanted into the distal lung for regenerative medicine applications Contact Robert Thomson email: r.r.thomson@hw.ac.uk This article was published on 2024-02-26
